Whenever the engine is running, the water pump circulates the coolant through the passages in the engine to cool the engine block and components. The water pump impeller pumps the coolant to the rest of the engine. Coolant leaving the pump flows first through the cylinder head and engine block, then into the radiator, and finally back to the pump, where it is recycled through the engine. A component so important to the engine cooling system can only be replaced with a real motorboat water pump.
